Our current BPD body armor is designed to stop typical ammo used in handguns and will not stop high powered rifle ammunition. We need to protect our officers with this enhanced body armor capable of stopping rifle ammunition.
Why does it matter:
Police officers across the country are increasingly facing criminals with high powered rifles loaded with rounds capable of penetrating commonly used “bullet proof vests.” There are now enhanced vests, or body armor, capable of stopping higher powered rifle ammo. Deploying enhanced body armor will give our officers the self protection and confidence they need to face situations in which perpetrators are using high powered rifles.
How will the money be uses:
The money will be used to buy enhanced body armor for all of our responding officers.
